Should Minors be punished for their crimes or not

Department of Business Management (BBM) and MTroops organised a debate in Business Law on the topic "Should Minors be punished for their crimes or not". Crime rate has been increasing exponentially in our country. The crimes which were once happening once a blue moon, now take the first page of every newspaper every day. But the most heinous part of these crimes are that they’re being committed by Minors- people aged below 18 years. Their unfortunate situations are leading innocent children to commit crimes as “Survival of the fittest” is now the motto. The second years have taken a snippet from this situation and organised a debate on whether minors should be punished for their crimes or not. Some of them have argued that a crime is a crime, whether it is committed by a Minor or a Major and they should be punished for their crimes. But some have argued that crimes by Minors are mere reflections of their unfortunate situations. Lack of proper guidance and supervision by elders or their parents lead to the fickle minds of innocent children to assume their doings as right leading to heinous crimes. Team Punish have argued that the lack of guidance has affected families and people who have nothing to do with those children and why should they have to pay the price for those criminals upbringing. Team Should not be Punished have made a point saying if minors are punished they might never be able to distinguish between right and wrong. Juvenile jails and homes are not the way to go and once they come out, they might become even more dangerous criminals due to their ill treatment in their jails. In the end, they’re agreed that every situation of crime is different and proper consideration of each case demands a proper and unique solution. So minors must be punished when they are punishable and counselled when they have scope to be counselled.
